Premiering back during SXSW last year, it was a smart idea for distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films to hold the release of Detention until next month. With Josh Hutcherson, the star of the record-breaking box-office hit The Hunger Games, part of the cast I assume it will incur some sort of bump due to this fact. But for those expecting a similar story, they will likely be in a state of shock.

Directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque), this looks to be an insane mix of genres, with tons of wild imagery packed into this trailer. It looks like a glorious mess that I can’t wait to see. We liked it at SXSW for its “originality and willingness to go balls out,” something this trailer certainly sells. Check it out below for the film also starring Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke and Dane Cook.

Synopsis:

Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell and Spencer Locke star in DETENTION, a hipster, teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life and is preying on the school’s student body. As the clock ticks and the bodies pile up, the likely suspects are embroiled in a race against time to stop Cinderhella and ultimately save the world… if only they can get out of detention.

Detention hits theaters on April 13th, 2012.
