Successfully proving he can make entertaining, modestly budgeted thrillers such as The Machinist and Session 9, director Brad Anderson hasn’t really gotten the Hollywood gigs one might expect. However, this fact could change in the spring when Sony releases his latest thriller and biggest project yet, The Call.

Previously going under the title The Hive, the film follows 911 operator, Jordan (Halle Berry), who must help a teenage girl who has just been abducted from getting killed. The logline adds more intrigue when it says “she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl’s life.”

While that’s not given away in the trailer, it actually looks like a genuinely entertaining thriller and knowing Anderson is behind it, perhaps he can elevate the seemingly by-the-numbers material. One also may get flashbacks to Taken 2, as most of the action there also resulted from a phone conversation, but I’m confident this one will be better crafted. Check it out below for the film also starring Abigail Breslin, Michael Imperioli and Morris Chestnut.

The Call opens March 15th, 2013.
