Coming off its best film award at the London Film Festival last week, Lynne Ramsay‘s We Need To Talk About Kevin is finally making its way to the states in just over the month. Oscilloscope has released a new trailer for the occasion, which features Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller as his favorite character, of tortured/confused adolescent character (see: Afterschool, City Island and Another Happy Day). The imagery looks haunting and I haven’t read Lionel Shriver‘s original novel, so trying to stay as spoiler-free as possible for this one, but check out our Cannes review here and see the trailer below via Apple.

Synopsis:

A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay’s WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores the factious relationship between a mother and her evil son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller). Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva’s own culpability is measured against Kevin’s innate evilness. Ramsay’s masterful storytelling simultaneously combines a provocative moral ambiguity with a satisfying and compelling narrative, which builds to a chilling, unforgettable climax.

We Need to Talk About Kevin hits theaters December 9th.
