Having not seen the film since its release, I decided to check out 2004’s Sideways over the weekend. As it turns out, Alexander Payne perfectly nailed the dramedy with spot-on writing and acting from his lead ensemble. It is no different with his return in The Descendants; I loved it in Toronto, and Fox Searchlight has released a new, quick trailer that comes off the first preview.

George Clooney is perfect in the lead role, displaying the most emotion out of anything he’s done in his career thus far. While this trailer doesn’t show much, we get a sense of how downright funny and heartfelt the film is, and it makes me realize how much I can’t wait to see this one again. Check it out below via Apple, as well as a new poster from Crictoo, and climb up the family tree on Fox Searchlight’s new website here.

Synopsis:

From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning SIDEWAYS, set in Hawaii, THE DESCENDANTS is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family’s land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.

The Descendants hits theaters on November 18th, 2011.
