While the first trailer for Francis Lawrence‘s Water for Elephants, the adaptation of the best-selling novel by Sara Gruen, certainly looked pretty, it didn’t really do much for me dramatically or emotionally. I can’t say that the new international trailer Fox has released has really changed my perception of it in terms of story, but it still manages to heavily impress on a level of spectacle.
Granted, the story does feel a tad more fleshed-out here, even if it’s only in small glances from characters or what might be new lines of dialogue; either way, it helps. And, as stated above, this thing looks beautiful. I can’t wait to see this if only for the great experience it should deliver in a theater, as hinted at by the wonderful shots and use of color on display. The cast also has me pretty happy, with Christoph Waltz likely washing the taste of The Green Hornet from our mouths, along with Hal Holbrook continuing to act, even into his much later years. You can watch the trailer below:
Plot: Based on the acclaimed bestseller, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS presents an unexpected romance in a uniquely compelling setting. Veterinary school student Jacob (Robert Pattinson) meets and falls in love with Marlena (Reese Witherspoon), a star performer in a circus of a bygone era. They discover beauty amidst the world of the Big Top, and come together through their compassion for a special elephant. Against all odds — including the wrath of Marlena’s charismatic but dangerous husband (Christoph Waltz), August — Jacob and Marlena find lifelong love.
What do you think of this new trailer? Are you excited for the film?
