While it arrived at TIFF with some hope that it could be a bounce-back for director Jason Reitman after most audiences virtually forgot his last film, Labor Day, even got a wide release this year, the disappointing streak looks to continue for the helmer with Men, Women & ChildrenBased on Chad Kultgen‘s novel, the drama follows families in a suburban town and the effect of the Internet on their way of life and after an initial teaser, the full-length trailer has dropped today.

Adding to the tepid response, in our review we said, “It looks fantastic, does wonders visually integrating social media text boxes, and has effective performances despite inherent caricaturization, but it adds nothing to the discussion of a post-9/11 world — Men, Women & Children merely exploits it.” Featuring Kaitlyn Dever, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ansel Elgort, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Elena Kampouris, Dean Norris, and Adam Sandler, check out the trailer below.

MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.

Men, Women & Children opens on October 1st.
