After his sprawling, nearly three-hour romantic drama Laurence Anyways, Québec’s Xavier Dolan has taken a much different route for his next project. Adapted from Michel Marc Bouchard‘s play, Tom at the Farm clocks in at just over 90 minutes and sees the helmer in psychological thriller territory.

Following a fall festival premiere, the first trailer has now landed for the story which tracks a young ad executive who heads to a funeral, only to realize no one there knows of his relationship with his now-dead lover. Receiving mostly positive reviews after stopping by Venice and TIFF, the trailer hints at compelling, disturbing work. Check it out below for the film starring Dolan, along with Pierre-Yves Cardinal, Lise Roy and Evelyne Brochu.

Tom at the Farm is currently seeking U.S. distribution.
