While his last feature Labor Day seemed to come and go in a blip, Jason Reitman‘s follow-up is arriving sooner than expected, premiering at Toronto International Film Festival next month and getting a release in October. Based on Chad Kultgen‘s novel, Men, Women & Children follows families in a suburban town and the effect of the Internet on their way of life.

The strong cast includes Kaitlyn Dever, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ansel Elgort, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Elena Kampouris, Dean Norris, and, in what looks to be one of his better projects in some time, Adam Sandler. The first trailer has now arrived, which reveals a heavy integration of social media, but light on dialogue, and can be seen below for the film that hits limited theaters on October 3rd before expanding on October 17th in wide release.

MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.
