After crafting two of my favorite films of recent years with The American and Control, expectations are riding high for the third film from Dutch director Anton Corbijn. Sitting near the top of our most-anticipated films of the year, A Most Wanted Man seems perfectly matched for his style, being an adapation of a John le Carré novel. We’ve now got our first look at footage from the upcoming project this evening. While it’s just a sales trailer, it effectively sells an intense thriller led by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe, Daniel Bruhl and Robin Wright.

Adapted for the screen by Australian writer Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness, Lantana), the plot centers on a Hamburg-based terrorist cell’s involvements in 9/11 attacks. It involves a dodgy banker and a lawyer, who are trying to help a refugee suspected by intelligence of aiding the Islamic terror network involved in the attack. Judging from this debut look, it seems to be Corbijn’s most commercial offering yet and we’d expect it to premiere on the fall festival circuit before a November international bow. There’s no U.S. distribution yet, but one can see the footage below thanks to Bleeding Cool, which is unfortunately not in HD, but we’ll update if that pops up.

Update: Trailer removed at the request of the producers. Check back here for the official launch when it occurs.
