Back in 2010, visual effects artists Gareth Edwards broke out with his well-crafted, inventive sci-fi drama Monsters (starring Scoot McNairy, who would go on to take part in Argo, 12 Years a Slave, Killing Them Softly and more). Just a few years later the director has found himself behind one of the biggest tentpoles of 2014, Godzilla. Also releasing next year is a sequel to Edwards’ debut but, of course, without the original helmer.

Our first look at footage has now landed thanks to Empire, which introduces the setting of Monsters: Dark Continent, helmed by Tom Green (Misfits). There’s no monsters to speak of yet — merely just a warning — but we get a glimpse at the on location Jordan shoot and some of actors, which includes Johnny Harris (Welcome To The Punch), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie (Game Of Thrones). Check it out below and head over to the source to get a few more tidbits about the story.

Monsters: Dark Continent will arrive in 2014, timed with Edwards’ big-budget bow.
