trainspotting-1

With the overlooked Steve Jobs unfortunately not striking much of a chord upon its release Danny Boyle has returned to territory that will certainly get him more attention for this next film. His next film is a sequel to Trainspotting, his 1996 feature about a group of self-destructive heroin users. Featuring the return of Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle, the first official trailer has now arrived.

Containing an energetic blast of imagery as our gang reunites two decades, Boyle and company seem to be on-point here creating the feel of the original. Taking on new themes found in the 21st century, it also looks to be a timely follow-up, so hopefully it’ll resonant when it lands early next year. With a script by John Hodge and photography from Anthony Dod Mantle, check out the trailer below.

Update: See a video comparing the original and sequel below.

First there was an opportunity……then there was a betrayal.

Twenty years have gone by.
Much has changed but just as much remains the same.
Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home.

They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).

Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.
