Eva Mendes Gets Serious in ‘Girl in Progress’ Trailer

Think of it as a family-friendly version of We Need To Talk About Kevin. Patricia Riggen, director of Under the Same Moon, is giving Eva Mendes a chance to lead in her upcoming drama Girl In Progress. The story of a struggling single mother  trying to figure out how to parent looks like material fit for Lifetime, but it is indeed getting a theatrical release.

Co-starring Matthew Modine (will this film also get pushed back due to The Dark Knight Rises?!), Cierra Ramirez and Patricia Arquette, the cloying teaser below via Yahoo doesn’t sell me. But I’ve always been fond of Mendes and it is nice to see her nab a leading role, although I’m much more looking forward to her supporting performance in Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines later this year. Check out the trailer below, along with the first poster.

Girl In Progress hits theaters April 27th, 2012.
