Following her break-out studio feature Selma — as well as her fiery, essential documentary 13th — Ava DuVernay’s next project will find her breaking new ground, being the first black woman to direct a film with a budget over $100 million. Better yet, her adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time, looks to be an imaginative, beautiful blockbuster, judging from the first trailer.

Starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peňa, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard with Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine and introducing Storm Reid, the story spans new dimensions of time and space.

“We would just get in a room and sit together, and just dream up the craziest stuff, and then we could actually make it,” DuVernay tells Yahoo! Movies. “And we would just try the craziest stuff. And then we could actually make it. Bring in Oprah and Reese and say, ‘Let’s try this wig on you. No. Let’s try this makeup.’ They were like little dolls.”
