She’ll likely be headed to Cannes in one of our most-anticipated films of the year and following that, Chloë Grace Moretz recently signed on to star in the sci-fi drama The 5th Wave, from Alice Creed director J Blakeson. Based on Rick Yancey‘s novel it follows “four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, 16-year-old Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie meets a young man who may become her final hope.”

Before that, however, the young star takes the lead in another adaptation, If I Stay, and the first trailer has landed today. Based on Gayle Forman‘s book, direction comes from R.J. Cutler (The September Issue) and follows the actress who has an out-of-body experience after a horrible car accident. Also featuring Mireille Enos, Lauren Lee Smith, Liana Liberato, Jamie Blackley, Aliyah O’Brien, Joshua Leonard, and Jakob Davies, check out the trailer below.

Based on the young adult novel written by Gayle Forman, the story centers on Mia (Moretz), a young cellist with nothing but boundless opportunities on the horizon. She’s been accepted into Julliard. She’s falling in love with a guitarist named Adam (Blackley). Her torn feelings between her professional and personal future are the greatest conflicts in her life. Mia’s world is turned upside down during a horrific car accident that kills her parents (Enos and Leonard), and leaves Mia in a coma. She has an existential, out-of-body experience where she realizes she has a choice to make: stay alive and struggle through the extraordinarily difficult tragedy, or allow herself to pass on.

If I Stay opens on August 22nd.
