Well this is unfortunate. Zoe Saldana showed big star power in Star Trek and Avatar last year. Now, according to Heat Vision, she is signed on to star in a film with a premise as repetitive as could be. Considering I’m bored by just reading the synopsis below I can only hope producer Luc Besson and company do something wildly new when it comes time to shoot:
Saldana would play a young woman who, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.
What’s worse is Olivier Megaton, helmer of Transporter 3 is directing. He managed to take out all the fun of that series in one fell swoop. Now, he will direct Saldana in Colombiana. At least Besson and frequent partner Robert Mark Kamen have written the script. They recently turned a generic premise into quite an action thriller with Taken.
Zoe Saldana has been quite on or off too. Even though she was in two of the biggest blockbusters last year, and likely their upcoming sequels, she also stars in Death at a Funeral, Takers and The Losers this year. Even though the latter was fun, it was hardly a career high. She is talented and beautiful so I can only hope for the best. I just wish she chose better projects.
Are you excited to see Saldana assassinate or would you like to see her take on different projects?

The Losers is both a lot of fun and, surprisingly and refreshingly, not ineptly stupid. While it may come off as that, it isn’t. It’s a really well-done action film made in the vein of old-school “all for one, one for all” romps like The Dirty Dozen. It has the same formula: unique characters, one-liners and of course plenty of competently-staged fight sequences. It hardly ever slows down. Read the full story

A sizzle reel usually includes a mash-up of footage in a loose form of a trailer. The reel from Sylvain White‘s The Losers is no different. We get the clip of a scene and a bunch of new footage. When it was announced the film was PG-13 I settled my expectations, but this brought them right back up again. The action flick stars Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Holt McCallany and Oscar Jaenada. Check out the sizzle reel below via MySpace as well as impressions from the first screening and head over to /Film to see a ton of new hi-res images. Read the full story

Bursting with the energy of invention, James Cameron’s technological epic Avatar shows us how stories will be told in the future, in turn giving us a story to tell the moment we see it. To tell our friends what they missed or have yet to witness – computer-generated beings sweating in fear and crying in heartbreak and cursing in tongues that don’t exist on this planet, or in this solar system.
For a film built on discovery, it only seems appropriate that the plot should echo that of legendary John Smith and his exploration of the New World, which resulted in his love for it and for Pocahontas, its first daughter. Read the full story

With approach only two weeks (two weeks!) away from James Cameron’s return to narrative film making in the form of Avatar, promotion has started to pick up for the 3D sci fi epic. The latest batch comes in the form of two new clips that have cropped up online. The first features Parker Selfridge (Giovanni Ribisi) discussing the Avatar program and the main objective of their mission with Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver). The clip comes from MSN (via LatinoReview) and can be viewed below:

The day has finally come. James Cameron has returned to science fiction with Avatar. After months of hearing exciting praise from tremendous filmmakers (Ridley Scott) and hearing the notable reaction from Comic Con, general audiences have been able to enter the world of Pandora. 20th Century Fox just unveiled sixteen minutes of 3D footage across the world in IMAX theaters. If you got the chance to check out the footage then you surely know that watching the trailer on a computer screen doesn’t do the film justice.
My hopes and expectations for Avatar were quite grounded while walking into theater. It was a fact that the footage would be undoubtedly impressive, but I wasn’t expecting anything to be mind blowing. That expectation was met. This may not be the revolutionary film that many were/are hoping for, but it is a huge step forward. There are many tremendous aspects such as the non-gimmicky use of 3D. It’s not distracting and objects are not constantly being thrown at you. This is definitely the first film to fully use 3D to enhance and add detail to the film. Cameron also seems to have taken motion capture to a whole new level.
