David O. Russell To Go ‘Uncharted’?

Sony, you just can’t wait a year for me to be groomed and ready, can you? Is it really too much to ask for you to wait until June 2011 when I’ll have graduated film school and be ready to tackle my first big feature. I won’t lie, it has been something of a dream for me to handle the Uncharted movie adaptation as I am a pretty die-hard fan of the franchise, with it’s incredible shooting mechanics, terrific story-telling, and colorful characters. Essentially, it’s what Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull should have been, and everything more. Read the full story

‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ Screenwriters Hired

Last June we reported that a film adaptation of the popular PS3 videogame Uncharted is being made with Hitman screenwriter Kyle Ward attached. Latino Review is reporting that that deal has since fallen through and that Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the less-than-stellar team behind Sahara, but they can prove themselves with the upcoming Marcus Nispel remake of Conan.

I just recently finished playing through Uncharted 2 and it by far one of the best videogames I’ve ever played. As many have said before it is what Indy 4 should have been. The story is extremely engaging and the environments are breathtaking. Based on the title of the film adaptation it looks like they are writing the script based off the first Uncharted game, but I hope they include some elements of the new one, as I thought it was a better story.

Are you a fan of Uncharted? Who should play Nathan Drake?

‘Uncharted’ Movie In The Works

News is circulating that a movie adaptation of the popular Playstation 3 game Uncharted: Drakes Fortune will be produced.  As the project was just announced, news on the movie is scarce at this point, except for who will be writing the movie.  Screenwriter Kyle Ward has been chosen to write the film.  Interestingly enough, Ward was also selected this week to write the sequel to 2007′s video game movie Hitman, at this point only being called Hitman 2.  He also has another video game adaptation in the pipeline, based off of the 2007 video game Kane and Lynch, set to star Bruce Willis.

Uncharted revolves around the character of Nate Drake who searches with his colleagues for the mythical lost city of gold El Dorado.  Along the way he must battle mutants who were altered by a cursed statue.  The game takes its influences from properties such as the Indiana Jones series in terms of story, character, and setting.  Some have already called for Nathon Fillion (Firefly, Serenity) to star as Drake, although at this point it’s merely wishful thinking as the film is still in very early development.

While I’m not a fan of video game movies, Uncharted seems like it could make a good movie if the game’s reviews are any indication and if the right talent is put in charge.  But, then again, that’s what is always said before one of these movies is made, and then they turn out to not be very good.  But, I’m willing to hold out hope, and even if this fails, there’s always Bioshock (hopefully).

Have you played Uncharted? Do you think it would it make a good movie?
