They’ve got me half convinced with this first full trailer, taking all they can from Up in the Air and then some. It’s a whole lotta Ben Affleck, which is a bit of a surprise, and only a little bit of Kevin Costner. But with a Boston accent! So that’ll be exciting.

Someone out there really, really wants to get Men in Black III into theaters. Jemaine “Flight of the Conchords” Clement is in final talks to join Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin in the sequel to the tired alien-action-comedy franchise. Barry Sonnenfield has also returned to direct.
Clement will play Boris, “who is described as being charmy and creepy at the same time.” [THR]
Brolin, as previously established, will play a young Agent K (Jones) and take up much of the film, presumably teaming up with Smith, a.k.a. Agent J.
What do you think of this news? Do you like Clement? Conchords? Men In Black?

Cinematical has it official. Men in Black III is going to be release May 25, 2012. Paramount released this after a wave of ‘MIB’ rumors including the state of the two stars of the original, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and a bizarre one that had Josh Brolin in talks to play a younger Kay.
Well it’s all true. Smith and director of the previous two Barry Sonnenfeld are returning with Jones finalizing negotiations. Brolin will be making his introduction to the franchise as well. The film is being written by Etan Cohen (not Ethan Coen) who co-wrote Tropic Thunder. And, as expected, it will all be in 3D, for better or worse.
Are you happy to see another ‘Men in Black’ in production?

With the title role (Chris Evans) announced only two weeks ago, and the film’s main villain (Hugo Weaving) only shortly before that, Marvel and Joe Johnston have wasted no time in adding more faces to The First Avenger: Captain America‘s casting roster. Film School Rejects reports via UGO that none other than Tommy Lee Jones has entered negotiations for an unnamed role in the film. Read the full story

Yes, it’s been rumbling for awhile but the Men in Black will return, in 3D. Director Barry Sonnenfield told Showbiz at the Tribeca Film Festival kick-off party that the film is “ready to roll”. It will be in 3D and that both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have signed on to return. After Spider-Man 4 fell apart at Sony they are looking for a Memorial Day 2011 film and this is the one. Tropic Thunder co-writer Etan Coen is finishing up the script now.
/Film also reports the rumor that SPOILER ALERT – the film will “feature a time travel scenario which would team a present-day J with a younger Agent K, possibly played by Josh Brolin.” We also reported that Sacha Baron Cohen and Jemaine Clement may play aliens in the film.
Will Smith was choosing this or Andrew Niccol‘s The City That Sailed for his next project and it looks like the made the (wrong) choice. Smith hasn’t made a movie since 2008′s Seven Pounds so it is no surprise he is returning with this nearly guaranteed success.
What do you think about another Men In Black, in 3D?

With the major success of the first two Men in Black films it’s about time for Sony to try and get some more life out of the franchise. Josh Brolin is apparently on board and set to join series star Will Smith; although the presence of Tommy Lee Jones is not yet decided upon. Perhaps this is the reason that we’re now hearing casting rumors for the potential third picture, and why they’re also from actors of a comedic persuasion.
The two names being thrown around are that of Sacha Baron Cohen, best known for the films Borat and Bruno, and Jemaine Clement, one half of New Zealand’s formerly fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo, Flight of the Conchords. The character is said to be named “Yaz” and is possibly a new agent, although not much else is known at this time. The script was penned by Tropic Thunder co-writer Etan Coen (add an “H” into the first name and I would be more excited for this movie).
What do you think of this potential casting? Are you excited for Men in Black III?

Variety has reported that Tommy Lee Jones will not be directing or starring in The Lincoln Lawyer, Lakeshore Entertainment’s adaptation of the Michael Connelly novel. Jones was set to star next to Matthew McConaughey but it is reported Jones “has left the project over creative differences on the script.” With that script, written by John Romano, Lakeshore is in a scramble to find another director and start production next spring. Tommy Lee Jones is a busy man as Variety lays out his other projects below.
Jones is in post-production on HBO’s The Sunset Limited, a telepic based on the Cormac McCarthy play that Jones directed. He stars with Samuel L. Jackson. He’s also readying an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s Islands in the Stream. On the bigscreen, Jones most recently wrapped the John Wells-directed The Company Men with Ben Affleck and Kevin Costner.
The plot for Michael Connelly’ Lincoln Lawyer novel is below:
Mickey Haller has spent all his professional life afraid that he wouldn’t recognize innocence if it stood right in front of him. But what he should have been on the watch for was evil. Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers — they’re all on Mickey Haller’s client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence — it’s about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it’s even about justice. [read the rest at the official site]
Are you upset Jones isn’t directing? Who would you like to see take command?

Thanks to THR affiliate Risky Biz Blog we can confirm that a Men In Black 3 is being written. This confirmation comes straight from Sony themselves.
