It seems like the impossible has happened: Steven Spielberg has started directing a movie and there hasn’t been much attention paid to such an occurrence. With one of the best living directors beginning production on a new film, there’s always reason to be excited, but there didn’t seem to be coverage of this. But, now with these set photos, it looks like coverage of the production of his new film, War Horse, will gear up. Read the full story

As one of the people who personally held nothing against Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I still don’t think that a fifth Indiana Jones movie is a good idea. For one thing, many people didn’t like the last film, and if this is like that, then audiences will just be turned off even further. And, if there is a fifth film, this means that Steven Spielberg will focus his attention on it when, frankly, there are other projects he should work on. Basically, we don’t need a fifth Indiana Jones.
You don’t want one? Too bad! According to Shia LaBeouf, George Lucas, everybody’s favorite storyteller, has come up with a “crazy idea” (you’re supposed to say that in your head like “craaaaaaaazy idea”) for the newest installment. The quote comes to us from ShowBizSpy (via CinemaBlend) and is as follows:
They’re script writing right now, I got called into Steven’s office and he pitched a little bit to me and it sounds crazy; it sounds really cool.
What’s even more important is that in the same article Shia admits that he’s not “a huge spender.” This is good to know, as it was something that I had been contemplating for the past few months. Oh, and regarding that quote about Indy 5, I don’t believe it. If you look at the article, there’s no mention of where this comes from or when it was said, so I don’t think there’s any truth to it. Therefore, I don’t think it warrants any real discussion, other than saying that if this movie does get made, it will both make a lot of money and incur the wrath of the people who are responsible for the movie making money. The wonderful cycle of fanboys.

After the mysterious teaser that showed up back in May, people have been speculating about J.J. Abrams’ new film Super 8. It doesn’t seem to be in the same style as the film Cloverfield, which he produced, but instead will be filmed more traditionally and seems to emulate producer Steven Spielberg’s Amblin films of the 70’s and 80’s, which sounds good to me. What we’ve just learned is that the movie will begin shooting soon, and that is, well, pretty much it. Read the full story

In an interview with GMTV, Liam Neeson (who recently joined Lee Daniels‘ Selma) stated that he is not involved with Steven Spielberg‘s biopic Lincoln. “I’m not actually playing Lincoln now,” Neeson explained, “I was attached to it for a while, but…now I’m past my sell date.” This development not only begs the question of who could possibly replace Neeson, but also whether or not this long-standing project will ever be translated to the silver screen.
As The Playlist reports, Spielberg is set to begin production soon on his next film War Horse, which is currently due for release in August 2011. There is more troubling news, as the reports also states that Lincoln‘s script is far from finalized, as Tony Kushner (Munich) is still rewriting John Logan‘s (The Last Samurai, The Aviator) original draft.
Lincoln has sure turned out to be one of those “wait and see” projects. It seems as if every new report about this film over the past few years has delayed it even further. And with Neeson out of the picture, who would have surely made the perfect Abraham Lincoln, I am truly doubtful about the project’s future.
Who do you think should replace Neeson? Will this project eventually be brought to life?
