[Review] Moon

rockwell-moon-2

Moon is one of the most refined science fiction films of the 21st Century. Its a visual feast filled with intriguing themes, ideas, and it even conveys a heartfelt friendship. It is a dramatic character study that uses science fiction as a back drop for the story.

The story centers around astronaut Sam Bell who has been on the moon for three years working to supply earth with it’s primary source of energy, Helium-3. Sam Bell has been suffering with loneliness and stress, and his only companion is his loyal computer friend Gerty. Two weeks before Sam Bell gets to return home, he starts seeing things that may or may not be real.

The 15 Most Exciting Summer Movies

15mostexcitingmoviesheader

By Jack Giroux

2008 was a great summer for the movies. Good entertainment was had, and not just dumb popcorn movies for once. We got The Dark Knight, Wall-E, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, and Pineapple Express. This summer is even going to be better. Although the start was a bit shaky with Wolverine, Star Trek kicks it off right this weekend. Here are the top 15 stand out films this summer:

15- Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen

Release Date- June 24th

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen will inevitably offer no more then a lot of explosions and CGI, but with robots. While the first film wasn’t a landmark of any kind, and mostly dumb, it was fun none-the-less. The 147 minute running time for the new one is a bit bothersome, but long running times are fine when the story calls for it. My only question is do we really need to see robots fighting for that long? Its a Michael Bay movie, there will only be good action, nothing more. Even the length of the first movie was a problem, the last thirty minutes turned into nothing but repetitive action. Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen will without a doubt be a fun action movie, even if it extends its welcome.

Eli Roth To Take On Transformers/Cloverfield Style Epic

elirothbig3

In a recent MTV interview with Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) has revelaed he’s planning to shoot  an $80 million action epic this fall and then, three weeks later, shoot a feature length version of Thanksgiving for $5 million. He described the project a little bit:

It’s going to be something that is really fun with lots of mass destruction. I wanted to do something along the lines of Transformers or Cloverfield that was a little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction.

Duncan Jones To Take On ‘Blade Runner’-Esque Sci-Fi Film

By Jack Giroux

With Duncan Jones’s directorial debut Moon only two months away, he is already talking about his possible next film. Jones talked about it in a very spoilery interview with Popular Mechanics.

“It looks like I’m going to be doing another science-fiction film next. I love Blade Runner, it’s one of my favorite films, and I’ve always been really… depressed that there was never—not a sequel, because I don’t think it’s right to make a sequel about Blade Runner, but no one’s really tried to make a film which was set in the same kind of world or had that same kind of feel. So that’s what I’m doing, a big-city mystery story that takes place in a future Berlin.”

Leonardo DiCaprio To Star In Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’

leonardo-dicaprio

Variety reports Leonardo DiCaprio (Revolutionary Road, Body of Lies) is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s (The Dark Knight) science fiction thriller Inception. Script has been kept under wraps but the studio calls it a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind. Set to shoot this year the film will be out summer 2010.

I’m really glad Nolan is doing another project before another Batman. Leo is always great, can’t wait to see him Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, set to release this October.

What do you think of Nolan and DiCaprio working together?
