Michael Mann’s Daughter Directing Sam Worthington In ‘The Fields’

There was mention of the project yesterday on Production Weekly’s feed, but now Deadline has the full scoop on Ami Canaan Mann’s directorial debut, The Fields. The drama, which stars Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) is “based on a true story of a pair of detectives investigating a series of unsolved murders in a stretch of bayous near the oil refineries in coastal Texas where as many as 70 bodies have turned up over the past 30 years.” Don Ferrarone, a former top DEA operations wrote the script. Ferrarone has worked with Mann on Miami Vice and also has produced Bad Boys II, Man on Fire, Deja Vu, and The Taking of Pelham 123. Michael Mann, who is also producing the film, talked to Mike Fleming at Deadline and had this to say: Read the full story

Avatar’s Sam Worthington To Become A Vampire For Alex Proyas?

Avatar star Sam Worthington is rumored to star in a new vampire flick for director Alex Proyas, Latino Review reports. Their scoop details Universal’s need for big films next summer. They have 14 films “ready to go” with scripts and directors, but need 8. Near the top of the list is a a film titled Dracula: Year Zero, which is a “period retelling” of the Dracula story. It is reported that the film has a budget of over $100, which is not nearly as much as the $165 they payed for The Wolfman, which comes out in a few weeks. Alex Proyas, who was behind Knowing, Dark City and I, Robot has been attached to direct for almost two years now. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (who are behind the upcoming Flash Gordon) also wrote the script almost 4 years go. Read the full story

[Clash of the Titans Update] No 3D, Massive Attack Scoring Instead of Muse

[Clash of the Titans Update] No 3D, Massive Attack Scoring Instead of Muse

We have two new Clash of the Titans updates thanks to an MTV interview with director Louis Leterrier. As reported a few days ago the popular rock band Muse was offered to score the film. Leterrier clears this up and confirms he offered a part of the score to strictly Matt Bellamy, the lead singer/guitarist, but that he was far too busy (as we predicted). Composer Craig Armstrong (who worked with Leterrier on Incredible Hulk, the Edward Norton one) was always going to do the majority of the score and Bellamy was offered “around 30 minutes”. Now, instead of Bellamy, Neil Davidge fromMassive Attack will provide the 30 minutes Leterrier was looking for. Check out an example of their music below. Read the full story

It’s an emotional experience to talk about something you have put so much and energy and anticipation into. Will it live up to the hype? Was all this effort justified? With Avatar, director James Cameron doesn’t give you a second to think about it. The walls of the theater, the red exit sign, the faint glow of the lights lining the stairs, and now the 3D glasses resting on your head all seemingly evaporate after one is ripped out of the seat into a world of wonder and adventure. This goal of complete escapism is familiar to Cameron as we went back in history with Titanic, explored the extraterrestrial with Aliens, and got a glimpse of futuristic war with The Terminator. As we venture into the extraordinary world of Pandora, Cameron’s goal is realized to the fullest, setting a new benchmark for the epic blockbuster. Read the full story

Avatar Sets New Rules Hollywood Must Follow

Bursting with the energy of invention, James Cameron’s technological epic Avatar shows us how stories will be told in the future, in turn giving us a story to tell the moment we see it. To tell our friends what they missed or have yet to witness – computer-generated beings sweating in fear and crying in heartbreak and cursing in tongues that don’t exist on this planet, or in this solar system.

For a film built on discovery, it only seems appropriate that the plot should echo that of legendary John Smith and his exploration of the New World, which resulted in his love for it and for Pocahontas, its first daughter. Read the full story

New ‘Clash of The Titans’ Trailer More Epic Than The Word Epic

Clash of the Titans

So remember how the epic first trailer for the Clash of The Titans remake, starring Sam Worthington, was well, epic? Well this one makes that trailer look like The Rugrats Movie.

I think Liam Neeson sums this film up nicely “release the Kraken!” Much in the vein of 300, this epic sword-and-sandal picture is pulling no punches. Expect the biggest, baddest god-on-man throwdown in the history of mythology. Or something like that.

Clash of the Titans hits theaters March 26th, 2010.

What do you think of the new trailer?

(warning: minor spoilers)

Do you remember in Aliens when Ripley found herself facing off against the mother alien? Or the scene in Terminator 2: Judgment Day where the T-1000’s arms became giant razor blades of death? Those moments of pure awe are hard to come by nowadays. Thankfully, the wait is over. James Cameron’s Avatar is filled with the joyous wonder that defined those moments. This newest adventure isn’t on level with Aliens or T2, but contains the same visual dynamism. This isn’t a masterpiece that represents the pinnacle of storytelling, but it’s a highly entertaining adventure that will become another Cameron favorite. Read the full story
