THR is reporting Disney is going to debut their two massive blockbusters on the annual ShoWest convention in Las Vegas this March. The event is a movie theater industry trade show will show Toy Story 3, which doesn’t come out until June 18th and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which hits May 28th. These screenings are pretty far in advance, so I’m very interested in seeing what the response is. Planeta Disney has released a new international poster for Disney’s big 2010 release — Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The poster is definitely stylistic graphically and is trying to push the film’s style across visually while trying to hint that the story is epic, but I don’t get the tagline. “COURAGE” in large block letters in red across the entire top of the poster is a little too ‘in your face’ and a little confusing considering no context into the story. I suppose the poster could be considered a teaser poster considering the tagline’s ambiguity.
It is also obvious from the poster’s style that the same team that did the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy are in full force. I’m not a fan of films that seem like they were designed in a lab specifically for the purpose of raking in money, but their success among the everyday movie goers is undeniable.
Prince of Persia is to be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and will take us to the mystical land of Persia, where all the Persians are strangely white and if you’re the hero you can slow down time to fight your enemies. We will meet the brave prince (Jake Gyllenhaal), who joins forces with the princess (Gemma Arterton) to combat dark forces and the Big Bad to protect an ancient dagger that was a gift from the gods capable of releasing the “Sands of Time.” Sound epic enough for you?

Mike Newell’s previous blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was actually quite good. I loved the videogame series and this seems to have a lot of the same elements. The script looks like it could use the part, but coming from Disney and Bruckheimer this should be a fun summer flick. Check out some HD screencaps below (click for hi-res):
