Wall Street’s hot again. At least for now. We all know how quickly that tide can turn. After all, money *gaffaw* never sleeps. Between the upcoming Margin Call and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (see what I did there before?), both high priorities for their respective studios, news of a Leo DiCaprio-led Wall Street film feels about right.
The Wolf of Wall Street, a memoir by Jordan Belfort, has been in development for a while and almost got made with Martin Scorsese behind the camera and DiCaprio in front of it, but Paramount owned Scorsese and Warner Bros owned the book, so it didn’t work out.
Now Ridley Scott‘s circling the adaptation, penned by Terry Winter (The Sopranos) and Scorsese’s given him his blessing, and his star actor to boot. [Deadline]
Here’s a synopsis (of sorts) of Belfort’s memoir:

Screenwriting cousins Mark and Brian Gunn have been hired to write Paramount’s remake of The Monster Squad. Rob Cohen, who produced the original film, will also produce and direct the new version. [Heat Vision]
The original Monster Squad was released in 1987 and was directed by Fred Dekker, who also co-wrote the script with Shane Black. It followed the story of a group of kids who discover a plot by Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Gill Man and The Mummy to try and take over the world. The choice of Cohen as director is relevant and arguably good considering that he last directed the Universal sequel The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which grossed $389 million worldwide.
The production team also includes big names such as the Platinum Dunes team (Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller) and David Ladd (Hart’s War).
Have you seen the original Monster Squad? Is it deserving of a remake?

Paramount has picked up the rights to adapt the upcoming book Gideon’s Sword, the first in a series written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Variety is reporting. They have allowed for action master Michael Bay to produce the film through his own company Bay Films.
There isn’t very much to say about this one’s plot and all I know is that it the initial book in a series called Gideon Crew. The two authors frequent the best-seller list and dance around the horror/thriller genre. Keep in mind the book hasn’t been published yet.
Meanwhile, Bay is directing/producing Transformers 3 which hits theaters July 2011.
