Caged Brilliance: Going Through the Motivations of Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage has had a career full of a little bit of everything: comedy and drama, indies and blockbusters, hits and misses, critical success and across the board scorn. Despite this impressive range, many of his film choices can be broken down into three categories 1) For the Money 2) For the Show {Prestige} and 3) For the WTF Factor. Read the full story

First Look: Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard in ‘Drive Angry 3D’

Patrick Lussier is bringing movie-goers another 3-D  joyride with Drive Angry. The film stars Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard. With and an over-the-top plot, the film is sure to satisfy fans of the action-adventure genre by providing them with a vicarious shot of adrenaline. Cage plays a vicious ex-con who escapes from Hell to seek revenge against the cult who murdered his daughter. He has only three days before they sacrifice her baby under a full moon. Heard joins Cage in his quest for redemption as the two companions track the cult leader together in what is sure to be a ridiculously wild ride. [/Film]

With Drive Angry, Cage once again chooses to make another artistic compromise for a pay check.  The once critically acclaimed actor continues to crank out film after film, with what seems like reckless abandon. Nevertheless, I am still a huge fan of Cage weather he’s providing us with a quality performance or just making a mediocre film incredibly entertaining. With incomparable charisma, versatility and star power Cage continues to be a bankable A-list actor.

This will be Heard’s largest role in a studio feature. The twenty-four year old is at the top of the heap of young Hollywood starlets. While critically significant roles may not be in Amber’s immediate future, her commercially viable, incredibly hot smoking looks may just propel her into the Hollywood stratosphere and possibly dethrone the notoriously difficult, very married current Hollywood super-hottie.

Drive Angry has all the components of a successful action-adventure film. Outlandish plot…check. Eccentric leading man…double check….Painfully sumptuous female….well you know the rest.

Can Nicolas Cage resurrect his once impressive career?

[Review] The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is the type of film you expect from Jerry Bruckheimer. In other words, it’s not of the most impressive narrative quality. It’s very inline with his other works. With that said, it still happens to be a quite enjoyable, if utterly forgettable piece, of charming spectacle. The best thing it’s got going for it: it is hilarious for both the right and wrong reasons.

[Review] Kick-Ass

MARV Studios -  UK/US -  117 Minutes

Creating a new comic book is no easy task. Creating one which can compete in a market populated by the omnipresent staples of the big houses, DC and Marvel, is near impossible. You have to do something different, especially if you’re planning on entering the superhero genre. Even still, that’s exactly what Mark Millar set about doing when creating Kick-Ass, the story of an average guy’s attempts at becoming a superhero. The big-screen adaptation, written by Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn (the same team that adapted Neil Gaiman’s novel Stardust in 2007) and directed by Vaughn, shared a symbiotic relationship with the comic book rarely seen, as both were developed at the same time. The result being that the film is also not your usual superhero fare. Read the full story
