Recently X-Men: First Class producer, Lauren Shuler Donner, spoke with Crave about the upcoming addition to the X-Men franchise. Among the nuggets she dropped for eager fan boys was a potentially crushing one: the Magneto solo movie is no more.
What we know so far about X-Men: First Class is it will be set in the 1960s, and Magneto will be played by thirty-three year old Michael Fassbender while Charles Xavier will be played by thirty-one year old James McAvoy. Donner explained that X-Men: First Class takes on much of Magneto’s origin using “Magneto history. Stuff from the Marvel/Magneto history”, thereby cooling any interest in a lone Magneto feature.

It seems hard to believe that a new X-Men movie, this time X-Men: First Class, is coming out June of next year, because they haven’t even started filming yet (outside of second unit photography). Today I thought to myself how strange it is that the Comic-Con before X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released, footage was shown. At this year’s Comic-Con before this new film, not a single second had been shot. And that was a terrible movie. Basically, they need to hurry up and it looks like they are doing just that with production in London starting in a few days. Read the full story

Jason Flemyng is a Matthew Vaughn regular, having appeared in Layer Cake, Stardust, and Kick-Ass (as well as the Vaughn produced Guy Ritchie films, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch). It will come as no surprise, then, that the English actor has been cast in Vaughn’s next movie, X-Men: First Class. Read the full story

Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class has a lot going for it. The stellar cast includes Alice Eve, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Kevin Bacon. Vaughn even spoke with IGN recently saying he is taking a note from J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek who “made a fantastically exciting reinvention of that world, with those great characters. And I [Vaughn] think there will be comparisons a little bit with X-Men: First Class. It’s very similar, in a way. But we’re doing some cool stuff in this movie, some really cool stuff that you haven’t seen before.” But, as LA Times reports, Vaughn recently saw Christopher Nolan‘s Inception and some of that “really cool stuff” will have to go. Jennifer Lawrence, the knock-out, Oscar-worthy star in the Sundance hit Winter’s Bone (my review here) has been cast as Mystique in First Class THR reports. Amber Heard was originally rumored, but I’m very glad they went with Lawrence. She is simply stunning in Debra Granik’s film. Read the full story
