Like this summer’s Moon, District 9 is the brainchild of a first-time director who displays real talent. Neil Blomkamp (assisted as producer by mastermind Peter Jackson) has crafted an astonishing debut. One which places itself among the top science fiction films of the twenty-first century.

Return of the King Kong?


King Kong

Without Peter Jackson it appears. According to this nice little ditty over at Total Film, a script is out there written by two guys named Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, and Spirit Pictures has bought the rights.

It’s a prequel concerned with how Kong becomes the “King” of Skull Island that’s intended to employ motion-capture animation (think Beowulf with giant apes and dinosaurs).

What do you think? Is it worth another Kong if it’s without Jackson at the helm and in motion capture?

The Remake List: The 5 Worst, The 10 Best


Psycho Remake

It only seems appropriate to offer a take on what is now the most popular genre in Hollywood – the remake. Not that the remake hasn’t always been popular. Just look at how many times Little Women has been made. A lot.

That being said, remakes have never been as prolific (or as potentially profitable) as they are right now. One can chalk this up as unoriginality or business savvy or both, but the fact remains the age of the remake is upon us and it has only just begin to rear it’s ugly, repetitive head.

With that said, we here at The Film Stage have attempted to break down the remake genre and decipher the gems and germs that have come out of it.
