By the traditional definition The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is not a good movie, but as the last few years have taught us with films like Crank, Gamer, Crank 2, Bad Boys II, and most recently Ninja Assassin, sometimes that traditional definition does not apply. Writer/director Troy Duffy has delivered a film that packs a punch of stylized violence and offensive yet still comical (in their own sadistic way) one liners to make anyone who was already a fan of the brothers happy and anyone who was on the fence have an enjoyable experience with the movie. However, anyone who despises the first film will not find anything that will change their opinion of The Saints. Read the full story

These two need no introduction. They are the ones people think of when they hear The Boondock Saints. The duo of Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery, better known as the MacManus brothers Connor and Murphy. I got to speak to both of them about the sequel, other projects they have going on and their opinion of Troy Duffy and Overnight.

Julie Benz’s work ranges from the bloody-entertaining Dexter to female leads in action films such as Rambo and Punisher: War Zone. She’s now adding another action film to her resume with The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day. She’s a new character for the Boondock world, but is connected through Willem Dafoe’s character from the first film. Benz declares this as new territory for her and yet it will still go down as another geek-friendly film under her filmography.

Playing perhaps one of the more well known (or at least cult-famous) supporting characters in recent memory, David Della Rocco’s “Rocco” provides the comic relief of the cult classic. I had the opportunity to speak to him about the upcoming installment to the Boondock series.

Boondock isn’t Boondock without some cops chasing the tail of the two brothers right? Well, that is exactly what Brian Mahoney and Bob Marley, who play Detective Duffy and Detective Greenly respectively, do in The Boondock Saints. Mahoney was a military pilot before getting into acting and Marley to this day is a stand-up comic who got to play one of the most popular roles of his career. I spoke with both of them about what it was like to work on the first film and being able to return 10 years later.

Up next on our interview series is producer Chris Brinker. You might not know his name but Brinker is the only producer involved with both the original film and the upcoming sequel. I spoke with him about his thoughts about the sequel.
It’s been 10 years so what has changed for you and your relationship to the film and did you keep in contact with Troy [Duffy]?
Oh absolutely, me and troy have basically been working on this for 10 years. We did the first film together and we did the second film together and during that time we were developing the screen play and perusing a deal that made sense because we wanted to make the second film and we had to make sure we had enough money to actually shoot the script and over the course of years was an uphill battle of sorts. We found ourselves in a fortunate position to be able to do this movie. Now we’re in a position where Sony has picked it up and is going to be distributing it worldwide.
Is the movie getting a wide or limited release?

Today begins a new interview series for TFS. Over the next few days you will see interviews from many cast and crew members of the upcoming sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day starting with Bob Rubin. Now, you probably don’t know the name, but Rubin is a newcomer to the The Boondock Saints series. He is a stand up comic who is in the new sequel playing the character of Gorgeous George. Check out the interview below.
Merrill Barr: First question, how did you get the part of Gorgeous George in Boondock 2?
Bob Rubin: I was doing a Monday night at this club in Hollywood and Troy Duffy was in the audience, I didn’t know it. He liked my stand up and he kept coming back and then we met one night at one of the shows. That basically led to the part, he told me that he wanted to use me and gave me a script in July of 2008. Then I worked on it with him and I did a screen test at which point Sony Pictures signed off on me.

Punisher: War Zone was released back in December of 2007, and just hit DVD shelves this week. Since it seems like most have not seen it, judging by its box office receipts, I wanted to throw my two cents in to tell you whether its worth watching. This is the third time the Punisher has been brought to the big screen. One version released in 80’s with Dolph Lungren which was quite terrible, and then again in 2004 we got the very mediocre Thomas Jane Punisher. So does this Punisher break the bad streak and deliver on the goods? Yes it does. This is an action junkies dream. Its non-stop violence, its highly stylized, and is very short and quick.
