‘The Adjustment Bureau’ Delayed Until March 2011

/Film has reported several release date shifts from Universal, the most notable of which is certainly the continuing delay of George Nolfi‘s The Adjustment Bureau. The film’s trailer, which debuted online in mid-May, impressed me quite a bit, so the fact that the release date is now March 4th, 2011 (previously scheduled as September 17th, 2010) will no doubt bring negative buzz to the surface. The report identifies a series of steady rumors which are all saying the same thing: The movie just isn’t that good. Considering the Philip K. Dick source material, as well as the mutual appeal of lead performers Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, this is rather surprising to me. Did anyone else see this coming?

The other films mentioned in the report include Greg Mottola‘s science-fiction-comedy Paul, starring Seth Rogen, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jason Bateman, and Sigourney Weaver. There were some lofty hopes for a late 2010 release, but an official date has now been set for March 18th, 2011. I am curious to see how this film shapes out, as it is Mottola‘s follow-up to Adventureland, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite romantic tales in recent years.

The last group of films with release date changes include the following:

  • Devil (previously titled The Night Chronicles: Devil): September 17th, 2010
  • The Dark Fields: January 21st, 2011
  • Skyline: November 12th, 2010
  • Kids in America: December 3rd, 2010
  • Sanctum: February 4th, 2011

Which of these films are you anticipating the most?

[Review] The Wolf Man

If you’re one of the many who fell in love with monster classics like The Wolf ManDracula, The Bride of Frankenstein and even The Creature from the Black Lagoon, then you’ll be less than happy to know that this revamp of the horror tale is somewhat of an underwhelming experience. There’s greatness here, but it never comes together to make for a particularly good film but simply a watchable one.

The Wolfman Officially ‘R’

the-wolf-man-hhh

Thanks to a tweet by the official Universal Pictures twitter it’s confirmed that the upcoming horror remake The Wolfman, starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving and Emily Blunt, has been rated R.

It reads: “... this just in: THE WOLFMAN has been rated ‘R’ for bloody horror, violence and gore. Get ready: February 12, 2010

This announcement comes after much debate over the film’s rating, along with many other things, most commonly the string of push backs the film’s release date has gotten and the recent hiring of industry editors Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now) and Mark Goldblatt (True Lies) to recut the film.

And while no one is saying the film is automatically going to be good because it is R, the fact that the studio has faith in a harder version of the film suggests something worth taking a risk on. Or perhaps they hope to milk the gore audience for all their worth? The Wolfman opens  February 12th, 2010.

What do you think about The Wolfman getting an R rating?

[Review] The Young Victoria

the_young_victoria05

It is common enough for significant royal figures to be immortalized in film, but rarely are their lives given the telling that they deserve. Proving that English biopics have more to offer than fancy costumes, The Young Victoria discovers the woman beneath the surface of the much-celebrated monarch Queen Victoria. Spirited and passionate Emily Blunt ignites the screen with her rendition of a youthful Victoria. Her first and subsequently lifelong love affair with Prince Albert (Rupert Friend) lifts the film above its otherwise mundane political plot-line and brings its significant royal subject to life.
