David Fincher Has Found His ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’

After much speculation, rumors, falsehoods, and erroneous statements, the search for Lisbeth Salander, the lead character in David Fincher’s upcoming remake/adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has ended. The choice is Rooney Mara, who was last seen in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake and will be seen in Fincher’s upcoming film The Social Network. She’ll be starring alongside Daniel Craig, who plays Mikael Blomkvist, and may also be acting with Robin Wright Penn and Stellan Skarsgård, both of whom are rumored to take on the roles of Erika Burger and Martin Vanger (if you, like me, have never had any experience with the series whatsoever, these names mean nothing). This news comes from Deadline (via /Film), and is one of the most anticipated casting announcements in a very long time, with actresses such as Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Carey Mulligan and Ellen Page rumored to be in contention for the role.

As stated above, I have no experience with the series, whether it’s the three books this trilogy of films will be based on or the Swedish trilogy of films based on said books. I figure I’ll get around to seeing the first film eventually, but for now I’m paying attention to this project. I’ve said to people before that I wish Fincher wasn’t doing a remake/adaptation (just read the subtitles and act like you have an education), but I also realize that more Fincher is a good thing, and I’ll at the very least keep my eye on this film while we view it’s development process.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is scheduled for release on December 21, 2011.

What do you think of this casting choice and of the Millennium Trilogy in general?

Fincher Teases ‘The Social Network’

Facebook seems to be taking over the entire world, right? It’s in our government, it’s in our news agencies and it trickles down all the way to our mobile phones. However inevitable it was, it did seem unlikely, and even a little ridiculous, that the back-story to a 26-year-old’s unbelievably successful social networking website would make an interesting and viable film. Deals were made, contracts were signed and here we are with a Facebook movie right around the corner. Not only a Facebook movie, but a Facebook movie with David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin involved and with the doubts on success replaced by interest in possibilities.

The first glimpse and teaser into the world of The Social Network has been released. Check it out below. Read the full story
