Funny man Danny McBride is in talks to star in Eastbound and Down scribe Shawn Harwell’s The Chadster, a wedding comedy “about a best man who has his position threatened when an eccentric, long-lost childhood friend shows up at the wedding and causes trouble” [Pajiba]
Sounds like You, Me and Dupree meets Wedding Crashers meets The Best Man. All solid comedies at least. The Hangover director Todd Phillips, once set to direct the feature, will still produce under his company, Green Hat Films. The film’s set up over at Warner Brothers.
McBride has put in good work so far, which is enough to forgive to blandness of the premise upon first read. Hopefully his redneck charm can pull it off.
Do you like McBride? Are you excited for The Chadster?
Variety reports that longtime partners Danny McBride and Jody Hill will be doing yet another project together. Just in case you weren’t aware, Hill directed McBride in The Foot Fist Way, Observe and Reportand their seminal HBO show, Eastbound and Down. Read the full story
Land of The Lost surely won’t be on the list of summer highlights, rather falling into the small barrel (so far) of disappointments this season. Despite many problems, the film winds up mildly succeeding due to a few notable performances and the colorful retro look that Brad Silberling brought to the film.
Failed scientist Rick Marshall has become the laughing stock of his profession after studying the ideas of time warps and spending hefty funs on it. Rick soon gets a visit from Holly Cantrell a fellow scientist who believes in Marshall’s theories and has come to help him get back on top. Rick and Holly decide to explore further into time warps and they soon find themselves caught in a miraculous world. With the help of a dim witted survivalist named Will Stanton and a frisky critter named Chaka, they must battle through the dangers they find including a mischievous T. Rex and viciously slow reptiles called as Sleestaks.
Jody Hill’s directorial debut, The Foot-Fist Way, features Danny McBride as a struggling karate instructor trying to work out some serious issues in his life. Hill’s most recent feature, Observe and Report, takes that basic concept, replacing McBride with Rogen and karate with mall copping and manages to take it to a whole other level. That level includes rape, murder, vomit, serious drug addiction, and extended full frontal nudity (not the good kind). For the majority of film-goers this will not be funny and actually be rightfully offensive. The minority, equally surprised this film was ever made by a major studio, will experience a unique moment in cinema.
We normally don’t report too much TV news here, but this news is too great to go unnoticed. According to Sepinwall’s blog the Jody Hill created, Danny McBride starring Eastbound & Down has been picked up for another season, with production starting later this year for a 2010 airdate.
Although some rumors have been circulating it is now official that Danny McBride and James Franco will be together again with director David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Snow Angels) for the comedy Your Highness. The comedy follows two spoiled and arrogant princes in a medieval fantasy setting. When an evil wizard casts a spell on their father and kidnaps the older prince’s fiance, they’re forced to go on a quest to save their family and the kingdom. It will be scripted by Danny McBride and Ben Best, who played Chuck ‘The Truck’ Wallace in Jody Hill’s hilarious Foot-Fist Way.
Synopsis: Three adults inadvertently stumble into a mysterious land populated by dinosaurs and other creatures, including the mysterious and dangerous race of Sleestak.
G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra hits theaters August 7th, 2009.
We also have a trailer for Will Ferrell’s action-comedy Land of the Lost. Check it out below or on YouTube in full HD:
Land of the Lost hits theaters June 5th, 2009.
After seeing these trailers I think G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra will be fun, but not spectacular, certainly better than I’d previously though. Land of the Lost looks to be a pretty fun ride as well. Can’t wait to see Danny McBride and Will Ferrell together.
What do you think of these trailers? What other ones are you looking forward to?
UPDATE: The list below was written in January of 2009. I suggest checking out our new list, 65 Must See Movies of 2010. Click the image below to see:
So 2008 is over, come on, it’s time to move on. Here are 50 great reasons to go to the theater this year:

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (Jan 16th)
Synopsis: After surviving a fatal accident that claimed the lives of five of men in a mine shaft, Harry Warden performed a horrific killing spree on Valentines night in the town of Harmony, killing 22 people before he was shot to death.
Why You Should See It: Early screening reports have said there is more sex, limbs, and buckets of blood than one can handle. The 3-D gimmick is the only reason this is on my list. If implemented right it should be a great time at the movies.
I put up a poster a couple weeks ago, but here are new production stills for The Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and Anna Friel. It hits theaters June 5th.
The plot invovles three adults who inadvertently stumble into a mysterious land populated by dinosaurs and other creatures, including the mysterious and dangerous race of Sleestak.
Is this film supposed to be funny? Not sure what to expect yet. What do you think of Land of the Lost?
