Since busting on to the scene with Arrested Development in 2003, Michael Cera has worked with many of today’s most popular comedians, and you’d have to be living under a rock to not have seen at least one of his films. Some say he is risking overexposure. But I say Cera has been steadily working toward Kevin Bacon status, developing a film career worthy of his own 6 degrees game.
To be a truly effective Party Game Icon, Cera would have to link to a variety of film actors to allow for a range of players to participate:
- a major Hollywood star (for casual movie fans)
- an international film star (for film students)
- an independent film star (for hipsters)
- a film star from Hollywood’s golden age (for anyone over 25).
As you can see below – Cera’s plotted his course well:

Do you believe Michael Cera has reached Kevin Bacon status? Give us your examples in the comments below.

Not too long ago we reported on a few actors rumored for the much needed Fantastic Four reboot, and now we finally got a list of directors who could be bringing us the infamous team back on the big screen. And the great news is: these aren’t names like Tim Story. While this should be regarded as pure rumor right now, it’s hard not to get excited by the names Comic Book Movie are reporting. The suspects: David Yates, James McTeigue, and smokin’ Joe Carnahan.

On paper, The Expendables sounds like heaven. All the B-action stars we (mostly) love, directed by Sylvester Stallone in a non-stop action film sounds like the best time one could have at a theater. When the film kicks off Stallone seemed to have delivered what he promised and intended, but soon it’s apparent that’s not the case. There are hints in the opening that this isn’t the ultimate 80′s callback we were expecting, with CG blood, CG lasers, and the CG in general, but it was still promising. After the quick and impressive intro, it loses steam quickly. Read the full story

Production Weekly is reporting that Brick and The Brothers Bloom director Rian Johnson’s next project, the sci-fi time travel Looper will start shooting in January. This is nice confirmation after The Brothers Bloom was well-received (one of my favorites of last year), but financially disappointing. It was unsure if Johnson could secure financing quickly, but with a premise as original as this, especially after the success of Inception, I’m sure it was a bit easier. Read the full story

Sylvester Stallone has gathered an all-star action cast for his latest throwback. Most of these stars are known for their gravitas in the action genre long before The Expendables existed. While this may not be true for Steve Austin, Randy Couture or Terry Crews (Little Man aside), we have compiled our ten favorites films from Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Arnold Schwarzenegger with an emphasis on action. Check it out below and comment with your favorites. Read the full story

Action icons Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis are gearing up to face off but unfortunately not in an Aliens/Die Hard crossover film, rather an upcoming thriller for Summit Entertainment. The two stars will join Henry Cavill, who plays a man whose family is kidnapped abroad, in The Cold Light Of Day. Willis is set to play Cavill’s father and Weaver will purportedly play the villain in the kidnapping plot. The film is being helmed by JCVD director Marbouk El Mechri. Read the full story

A small update from one of my most anticipated projects is much more worthy than vice versa. AICN’s Quint recently sat down with Bruce Willis to talk The Expendables and was able to get some details on Brick and The Brothers Bloom director Rian Johnson‘s next project. Willis will join Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Looper which is about “hitmen whose victims are sent back in time from the future to be executed. The Loopers bump them off in the present, so there is no trace of a crime in the future.” Read the full story

A few years ago when Alpha Dog came out, not many people liked it. In fact, I was one of the few people who did. I haven’t seen the film since it originally came out but now that it’s on Blu-Ray I finally get to revisit it. Based on the true story of Jesse James Hollywood, one of the youngest people to ever end up on the FBI Most Wanted List, the film offers a shocking and disturbing look at the kidnapping plot that Hollywood was involved in. The film stars some real talented, albeit young actors and offers a fairly interesting plot. Read the full story
