Thanks to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mickey Rourke has provided some in-depth insight on his upcoming film Passion Play. Having apparently just wrapped shooting, the film centers on a troubled trumpet player (Rourke) and a winged angel (none other than Megan Fox) who attempt to rescue each other from their desperate circumstances. According to Rourke, the project is nearly ten years in the making, and his relationship with writer/director Mitch Glazer dates all the way back to the days they went to high school together. Warning: this piece contains likely spoilers for Ghostbusters 3
News of a third installment in the Ghostbusters franchise has been running for quite some time now but it has really hit a high point in the last year after Harold Ramis “confirmed” it, with The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupinsky working on the script. Ivan Reitman, director of the original two films, has now confirmed he will be directing and that the script is complete. One of the stopgaps to the whole project, however, was Bill Murray, who has been wary at the prospect of a third film for seemingly as long as it’s been discussed. However, it now seems that he’s willing to return, but under an unusual guideline. Read the full story

Dan Akroyd recently spoke to the Los Angeles Times where he revealed some new details on the much talked about Ghostbusters 3. When asked if Ivan Reitman would return to helm he stated, “too busy as a mega-producer”. He also said that Harold Raimis, also apart of the crew, is who he wants to direct saying that, “He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it.” The original crew Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Davis are set to return along with Sigourney Weaver. Akroyd also mentioned production may start as early as this winter.
Here is another trailer to add to the bunch. Jim Jarmusch’s (Broken Flowers, Dead Man) The Limits of Control stars Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Gael Garcia Bernal and Isaach De Bankolé. Check it out below:
Because director Adam McKay knows what will stand the test of time and what won’t. And so does Ferrell and John C. Reilly. They proved this point with Tallageda Nights, which they were all a part of. McKay was also responsible for Anchorman, which may be the most recited/imitated comedy since Caddyshack. One-liners are the key to these movies, and Step Brothers is a feature-length collection of Ferrell/Reilly one-liners. From Reilly’s “Dad, I’m saying this because I love you: FUCK YOU!” to Ferrell’s “SHH! You’re waking the neighbors!!!” while he attempts to bury Reilly’s Dale alive, the movie’s sole intention is to be repeated by adolescents and boy-men whose most recent purchase was most likely a keg. And while it’s easy to argue that these are the only people who find this kind of crude, rudimentary humor funny and worth recitation, that does not rightly explain the over 100 million domestic box office dollarsStep Brothers brought in. Men over 25 liked this crude movie, and women did too. They are just less likely to admit it. Another group of people also enjoyed the film but won’t admit- at least not fully. They are called movie critics.

So 2008 is over, come on, it’s time to move on. Here are 50 great reasons to go to the theater this year:
January
My Bloody Valentine 3-D (Jan 16th)
Synopsis: After surviving a fatal accident that claimed the lives of five of men in a mine shaft, Harry Warden performed a horrific killing spree on Valentines night in the town of Harmony, killing 22 people before he was shot to death.
Why You Should See It: Early screening reports have said there is more sex, limbs, and buckets of blood than one can handle. The 3-D gimmick is the only reason this is on my list. If implemented right it should be a great time at the movies.
