Universal has bought the script for TMI (which concerns “the comic premise is that while honesty is the best policy for a relationship, ‘too much information’ might not be the best thing“) with the intention of Anna Faris and Ryan Reynolds starring. Read the full story
I’ve been taught over the years to not expect much from animated films that don’t have the Pixar stamp on them. One after another they are made specifically for mass commercial appeal, and one after another they completely miss the mark and are brutally compared to Pixar classics. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs easily and confidently makes the statement that although Pixar may be the prettiest girl at prom — They’re here to compete.
Modeled after the 1978 book by Jodi Barrett, Sony Pictures Animation builds a Hollywood quality back-story to the thin storyline of the children’s book and pushes it out, just like all the cool kids do it, in 3-D. Read the full story
Jody Hill’s directorial debut, The Foot-Fist Way, features Danny McBride as a struggling karate instructor trying to work out some serious issues in his life. Hill’s most recent feature, Observe and Report, takes that basic concept, replacing McBride with Rogen and karate with mall copping and manages to take it to a whole other level. That level includes rape, murder, vomit, serious drug addiction, and extended full frontal nudity (not the good kind). For the majority of film-goers this will not be funny and actually be rightfully offensive. The minority, equally surprised this film was ever made by a major studio, will experience a unique moment in cinema.
Not sure what is coming out this month? Here is my rundown of my most anticipated films coming out:
10. Fast & Furious (Lin, April 3rd)
Plot: As he is released from prison, Brian O’Conner teams up with Dominic Toretto work with the feds to bring down a heroin importer by infiltrating his operation.
Why You Should See It: I’m actually not sure if this is a film to watch or avoid. The first one was enjoyable and it looks like a return to the original. I’ve heard early buzz that it is a decent popcorn flick.
Today we have a trailer for Jody Hill’s comedy Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Michael Peña,Ray Liotta and Aziz Ansari. Check it out on WB or in HQ on Youtube or below.
Plot: At the Forest Ridge Mall, head of security Ronnie Barnhardt patrols his jurisdiction with an iron fist, combating skateboarders, shoplifters and the occasional unruly customer while dreaming of the day when he can swap his flashlight for a badge and a gun. His delusions of grandeur are put to the test when the mall is struck by a flasher. Driven to protect and serve the mall and its patrons, Ronnie seizes the opportunity to showcase his underappreciated law enforcement talents on a grand scale, hoping his solution of this crime will earn a coveted spot at the police academy and the heart of his elusive dream girl Brandi, the hot make-up counter clerk who won’t give him the time of day. But his single-minded pursuit of glory launches a turf war with the equally competitive Detective Harrison of the Conway Police, and Ronnie is confronted with the challenge of not only catching the flasher, but getting him before the real cops do.
The film is showing at SXSW festival then hits theaters April 10th, 2009

So 2008 is over, come on, it’s time to move on. Here are 50 great reasons to go to the theater this year:

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (Jan 16th)
Synopsis: After surviving a fatal accident that claimed the lives of five of men in a mine shaft, Harry Warden performed a horrific killing spree on Valentines night in the town of Harmony, killing 22 people before he was shot to death.
Why You Should See It: Early screening reports have said there is more sex, limbs, and buckets of blood than one can handle. The 3-D gimmick is the only reason this is on my list. If implemented right it should be a great time at the movies.
