Denis Leary’s production company Apostle Films has released its plans after his FX show Rescue Me ends in 2011. The only one Variety highlighted that peaked my interest, aside from a CBS comedic drama starring Michael Rapaport, was mention of a TV series based on Andrew Niccol’s overlooked 1997 sci-fi masterpiece Gattaca. The only hard information is that they “plan to develop [it] as a one-hour police procedural set in the future.” It would be written by Gil Grant, who has worked on 24 and NCIS and developed by Sony TV’s international division. Fans of Stephanie Meyers’ ‘Twilight’ saga have been wondering for some time now when her non-vampire book, ‘Host’, would be picked up for a movie.  Meyers has been holding out on making a deal, but producer Nick Wechsler (Reservation Row, The Time Traveler’s Wife) along with Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz have used their own money along with the promise of a collaborative effort.

Meyer’s first adult novel is a sci-fi love story set in a world where humans serve as hosts for the dominant species, an advanced form of parasite called “Souls.”  A parasitic entity takes over a human’s brain, but unlike most assimilations, the girl retains her identity and the internal conflict comes to a head when the members of a human refugee camp discover that one of the enemy is among them.

The film will be directed by Andrew Niccol, who directed Gattaca, reportedly one of Meyers’ favorite movies and has been rumored to be starring Matt Damon as the male lead, which will certainly appeal to Meyer’s ‘Twlight‘ fanbase.

According to Firstshowing Orlando Bloom is set to star in Andrew Niccol’s (Gattaca, S1m0ne, and Lord of War) sci-fi escape film The Cross. Bloom will be joined by Vincent Cassel and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko. The $24 million sci-fi escape story set in a border town, is about a man seeking to cross a mysterious border, something which no one else has achieved. Bloom will play the one trying to cross that border, while Cassel will play the guard who will go to any lengths to prevent him. Pre-production has already started and shooting will begin in July in Australia.
