Well this is unfortunate. Zoe Saldana showed big star power in Star Trek and Avatar last year. Now, according to Heat Vision, she is signed on to star in a film with a premise as repetitive as could be. Considering I’m bored by just reading the synopsis below I can only hope producer Luc Besson and company do something wildly new when it comes time to shoot:

Saldana would play a young woman who, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.

What’s worse is Olivier Megaton, helmer of Transporter 3 is directing. He managed to take out all the fun of that series in one fell swoop. Now, he will direct Saldana in Colombiana. At least Besson and frequent partner Robert Mark Kamen have written the script. They recently turned a generic premise into quite an action thriller with Taken.
Zoe Saldana has been quite on or off too. Even though she was in two of the biggest blockbusters last year, and likely their upcoming sequels, she also stars in Death at a Funeral, Takers and The Losers this year. Even though the latter was fun, it was hardly a career high. She is talented and beautiful so I can only hope for the best. I just wish she chose better projects.
Are you excited to see Saldana assassinate or would you like to see her take on different projects?
