Following a Cannes Film Festival premiere, Sofia Coppola‘s fifth feature, The Bling Ring, is heading into theaters nationwide this weekend and we’ve got a new extensive discussion to mark the occasion. Tracking the real-life story of a group of upper-class teenage criminals, I was able to check the film out this past weekend and thought it was a fascinating exploration of a superficial lifestyle of excess. This recent talk, which runs just under 45 minutes, comes from Film Society of Lincoln Center, with Kent Jones moderating.

Coppola opens up about many elements of the production, including how reality shows and Martin Scorsese‘s The King of Comedy were influences in the film, as well as how her Somewhere star Stephen Dorff helped connect the crew with Paris Hilton, and how it led to them using her actual house. The Lost in Translation director also talks about the late Harris Savides and how he came up with one of the best shots in the film. Check out the full conversation below for the film starring Emma Watson, Leslie Mann, Taissa Farmiga, Claire Julien, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang and Georgia Rock.

The Bling Ring is now in limited release and expands wide this weekend.
