During the long stretch to make Blue Valentine, as with most directors awaiting their next (or first) project, Derek Cianfrance dove headfirst into the commercial-making business. With his next (great) feature The Place Beyond the Pines hitting theaters at the month, he’s done a bit more work in the field and we’ve got the superb result today.
Picked up by Adweek (who do a must-read job of breaking down why exactly this works so well), Cianfrance’s commercial for Dick’s Sporting Goods has landed. Continuing a style similar to a few sections of his Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper-starring drama, it’s a remarkably intense 60 seconds, showing the high-strung duties of a baseball pitcher. Check it out below, along with two new UK posters from Total Film/Empire and a TV spot from First Showing for Pines.
