Considering the musical talents that hail from Canada, it’s no surprise that TIFF has a strong focus in the area each year. 2015 is no different, with a wealth of music-related films making their premieres. After featuring the trailer for the surprise Aretha Franklin documentary from the late Sydney Pollack, today brings two more previews of titles in the genre.

First up, we have the first clip from Born to Be Blue, a biopic of jazz icon Chet Baker, here played by Ethan Hawke. Written and directed by Robert Budreau, the film “picks up Baker’s story late in his career at the end of the 1960s, when — after years of heroin abuse, financial loss, and public disgrace — he attempts to stage a comeback. After a brutal beating in a parking lot after a gig, Baker is left with injuries that threaten the revival of his fortunes,” Variety notes.

Following that we have a clip for the Arcade Fire documentary The Reflektor Tapes, partially featuring footage not in the film as they create the track Afterlife. Naming it one of the best films of the fall, we said, “it’s a deeply intimate look at the process of creation and touring — one that should please any fan of the band.” Check out both clips below and return for more TIFF coverage.

Are you looking forward to the films?
