Now that his revisionist-Edger Allen Poe thriller The Raven has finished shooting, Deadline brings us the news that V For Vendetta director James McTeigue‘s next gig will be the FilmNation Entertainment project Message From The King.

The title makes it sound like a batch of high fantasy sword & sorcery, but apparently the plot revolves around the mysterious Jacob King, an “outsider” who journeys to Los Angeles to find his missing sister. The script is by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell, who wrote the recent Liam Neeson thriller Unknown, which we mostly liked.

McTeigue’s most recent offering, Ninja Assassin, was mostly ignored, but this is one director who should not be underestimated. As the Wachowskis‘ 1st assistant director on The Matrix trilogy, McTeigue can be considered a veteran of embattled movie sets.

There are no details about this project yet, but according to FilmNation production head Aaron Ryder, “After working with James on The Raven and then seeing a cut of the film, it was very clear to us that we needed to make his next movie.” It’s kind of a promising plot blurb, so we’ll just have to wait and see what develops with this one.

The Raven, starring John Cusack, opens March 9th, 2012.

Are you a fan of McTeigue? Looking forward to this project?
