As the world collectively forgets about Sam Raimi‘s passable, but uninspired Oz the Great and Powerful from earlier this year, Warner Bros. is giving audiences a chance to go down the yellow brick road again this fall. Although they couldn’t wait for the 75th anniversary mark next year, the studio is planning a theatrical IMAX 3D re-release for The Wizard of Oz.

On the heels of other remastered 3D conversions such as Top Gun, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Titanic, the 1939 classic will see a re-release on September 20th, according to USA Today. IMAX president Greg Foster opened up about the digital enhancements saying, “The sound was exceptional, the sharpness was exceptional,” says Foster. “But it’s the color that stands out. What they could do is truly amazing, maybe what people felt when they first saw it.”

While WB is only planning a one-week run in 400 theaters nationwide, you’ll be able to pick up the remastered Blu-ray edition soon after, on October 1st. If any film deserved such treatment it’s certainly this technological breakthrough and one can see it face off against The Family, Prisoners, Rush and Walk of Shame in the late-September weekend.
