The majority of films headed to the Sundance Film Festival go there will the intention to get acquired and last month saw one of the biggest deals in festival history. Fox Searchlight picked up Jim Rash and Nat Faxon‘s summer dramedy The Way, Way Back (our review here) for just shy of a hefty $10 million and while we await release date news, we’ve got word of two of its stars headed on to other projects.
First up, Steve Carell has become attached to an untitled comedy over at Universal Pictures, according to Deadline. With details are sparse, the plot surrounds the FBI and a wedding and comes from an original script by Field of Dreams‘ Phil Alden Robinson. Described as “in the vein of Stakeout and My Best Friend’s Wedding,” David Flebotte (Boardwalk Empire) will handle a rewrite.
Moving on to another Way, Way Back star, Sam Rockwell has found a new project and one that sees him reteam with the director of A Single Shot, a drama that just premered at the Berlin Film Festival. ScreenDaily reports that Rockwell will reunite with director David M Rosenthal on a biopic surrounding boxer Billy Miske. Based on Clay Moyle’s book Billy Miske: The Saint Paul Thunderbolt, the film follows the boxer who is diagnosed with a fatal disease, yet continued on with his career throughout the 1920s. The project is currently scouting for writers, so don’t expect it to arrive anytime in the near future.
