After many years in the commercial world, director Rupert Sanders made his Hollywood debut with last year’s Universal tentpole Snow White and the Huntsman, bringing in nearly $400 million worldwide. While that studio plots a potential follow-up –something I imagine Sanders may not be invited back for — the director is looking towards other options. From 90 Church to The Kill List to Juliet, he’s rounded up a handful of possibilities and today brings yet another.

According to Variety, he’s attached to helm a Napoleon biopic for Warner Bros. The studio was said to be looking towards Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio to potentially reteam once again, but with the former tied up with his current project, the latter is still being considered, along with other high-profile actors such as Tom Hardy.

Scripted by Jeremy Doner (The Killing), the historical epic is said to hinge around the unknown facts about the military leader and shift his public perception. The figure will be captured closer to a gangster boss (?), which indicates why the studio took a liking to the Scorsese/DiCaprio combo. Hopefully this one isn’t an overblown, style-over-substance effort like Sanders’ debut film, but one can check back when a lead has been found.

Who would you like to see lead a Napoleon biopic?
