Two long-awaited, oft-rumored films are finally getting some confirmed production schedules. First up, briefly, Will Arnett stopped by The Today Show this morning and confirmed plans to shoot the Arrest Development feature film this summer, right after they shoot the plan 10-episode miniseries that will air on Netflix. He stated, “We’re about to start making the Arrested Development miniseries and then [move] right into the movie this summer.” The entire cast is back and the plan is still set. More exciting details on that can be found here. [Vulture]

Then a big bombshell was dropped via a press release regarding Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to his 2005 hit Sin City. It is actually happening. Titled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, the film will be released by Dimensions Films with “many of the original cast expected to return.” Based on Frank Miller‘s graphic novel, he co-wrote the screenplay with William Monahan (Kingdom of Heaven, The Departed), but that is all under wraps. Check out some quotes below from the filmmakers as we wait on more casting and story details.

Update: Deadline is reporting that Rodriguez wants Michelle Williams and Mel Gibson for roles in Rodriguez’s other upcoming feature Machete Kills. I can’t imagine the former ever signing on to anything like this and the latter seems to just have freed up his schedule, so we’ll see.

Robert Rodriguez:

“The first question I am always asked is “When will you make another Sin City?. I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.”

Frank Miller:

“The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.“

Bob Weinstein:

“Audiences have been clamoring for Sin City 2 with Robert and Frank for a long time and trust me, it will be worth the wait. This will be my 11th collaboration with Robert in 16 years and he’s become a great friend. I look forward to continuing our long lasting relationship and partnering on more projects in the future.”

Production on Sin City: A Dame To Kill For begins this summer in Austin, Texas.
