With production underway, Lars von Trier is adding some more players to his erotic drama The Nymphomaniac and it’s certainly become a wide variety. While he reteams with stars like Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Udo Kier and Nicole Kidman, he’s already added Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Jesper Christensen and oddest of all, Shia LaBeouf.
Now Variety chimes in that Christian Slater has joined the ensemble as the father of Gainsbourg’s character. They also add that British model Stacy Martin will be portraying a younger Gainsbourg in flashbacks. With Slater having a lackluster last few years, possibly even decade, it’s great to see him working with someone who will challenge him. Check out the official synopsis below:
NYMPHOMANIAC is the light and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-‐diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe.
On a cold winter’s evening Seligman, an old bachelor, finds Joe semi‐unconscious and beaten up in an alleyway. After bringing her to his flat he sees to her wounds while trying to understand how things could have gone so wrong for her. He listens intently as she over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-‐out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
In other LaBeouf news, the Lawless and Transformers actor had another film on the fall festival circuit and now we’ve got some new stills from it. While Robert Redford‘s political thriller The Company You Keep was met with mixed reviews at Venice and TIFF, I’m still looking forward to it since it has to be an improvement on his dry, dreadful The Conspirator. FilmoFilia has nine new stills below, which feature some of the cast including Brit Marling, Susan Sarandon, Anna Kendrick, Nick Nolte, Terrence Howard, Stanley Tucci, Chris Cooper, Brendan Gleeson, Julie Christie, Stephen Root and Sam Elliott. Check them out below as we wait for SPC to announce a release date.
The Nymphomaniac will likely premiere at Cannes, while The Company You Keep will arrive in theaters via Sony Pictures Classics.
