The box-office receipts for this year’s Oz the Great and Powerful didn’t match his Spider-Man efforts, but with a worldwide gross of just under $500 million, it means Sam Raimi is still a sought-after talent in Hollywood. While he has yet to decide on what his next directing gig will be, word has come in on a likely option.

Much has been discussed on the filmmaker returning to the world of Evil Dead for a follow-up to the Bruce Campbell-led franchise. After Raimi produced this spring’s successful reboot (which came close to rounding up $100 million worldwide), the director behind that project believes he’ll direct Ash again. Fede Alvarez tweeted this weekend that Raimi will be helming Army of Darkness 2, which can be seen below.

Considering Raimi’s close relationship with the director, this reveal is on the trustworthy side and we’ll have to wait and see if an official announcement arrives. The last word we heard was that both the reboot timeline and the original series could cross paths, but only time will tell. In the meantime, check out Campbell’s thoughts on the matter while speaking at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con, after being asked about his involvement in the new film.

“The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.” He added, “Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.” He finished by saying, “Alright sir, the answer is yes.”

Would you like to see Raimi return to the director’s chair for this franchise?
