According to Variety, The Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino is currently in talks with production company Morgan Creek (who just added Naomi Watts to Jim Sheridan’s Dream House and Keanu Reeves to have him star in an upcoming sci-fi flick titled Passengers. The plot of the film is as follows:
“Passengers” is set in the future on a spacecraft making a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Due to a computer glitch, a single passenger (Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he, in turn, awakens a beautiful woman.
The film is set to start production this summer, written by Jon Spaihts who also wrote Ridley Scott‘s upcoming Alien Prequel. Muccino also stated that the actress who will be playing Reeve’s love interest is a “lesser-known” talent.
