Disney/Pixar will release Cars 2 this Friday, then Brave on June 22nd, 2012, followed by their Monsters Inc. prequel, Monsters University, on June 21st, 2013. They’ve just announced a November 27th, 2013 release for their next project, but what could it be? [Deadline]

The only details provided are that it will be an original project, not a sequel. All of you hoping for The Incredibles 2 or a Finding Nemo update will have to wait even longer. There is the very unlikely chance that Pixar could attempt live-action with Brad Bird‘s San Francisco earthquake movie 1906, but that just doesn’t make sense, especially with his involvement in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Newt has been canned. Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich has stated he has another secret film, but it seems too early for that. And Toy Story 3 writer Michael Ardnt has also said he is going back to Pixar for another project. So, what is left?

Unless they are hiding something deep in their sleeves, all signs point to the next film from Up director Pete Docter. It seems like his time is due and there was even recent news that he is definitely working on something. Tom McCarthy, who helped with Up, talked about the “amazing” and “ambitious” ideas for the project that Docter had a “really hard time wrapping his brain around them.” Count us excited for the project that is “really out there.” Although Cars 2 doesn’t look up to snuff, Pixar still manages to be the best animation studio out there. Let’s hope they continue on an upward trend.

What do you think Pixar’s next project could be? Which one do you want to see most?
