With the release of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest this weekend, it’s likely that we’ll be hearing a lot more of Noomi Rapace in the coming weeks. The film will mark her third portrayal of Lisbeth Salander, a role which is gaining worldwide fame, and has prompted David Fincher (The Social Network) to put together an American remake.

The latest news regarding Rapace comes from /Film. She is set to star in a Swedish boxing biopic alongside her ex-husband Ola Rapace. She will play Anita Lindblom, a cabaret singer who was married to Swedish prizefighter Bo Hogberg, who will be played by Ola Rapace. The report also gives a more fleshed out synopsis, which reads as follows:

Bo Hogberg learned to box while growing up in a working-class neighborhood in Gothenburg, Sweden. Winning his first national amateur championship at the age of eighteen, while compiling an amateur record of 60-12 (45 KO’s). During his professional career, Hogberg, would hold the European Light Middleweight Title, and compile a career record 36-6-1 (24 KOs). Hogberg was a controversial figure outside of the ring, known for his flamboyant lifestyle, which included fast cars, liquor, and women. His career would end, temporarilly, in 1967, after a prison sentence. He would return in 1970, and lose all three of his comeback fights. His unsavory reputation, may have played apart in politicians decision to ban professional boxing in Sweden in 1970. Hogberg died of cancer, after having suffered a stroke, a few years before.

Nothing is known yet of the film’s director or screenwriter, but perhaps this will work in the film’s favor. At this point, putting Noomi Rapace‘s involvement front and center is probably the best bet in terms of actualizing commercial potential.
