While we’re not sure exactly what form The Interview will take when it arrives this winter, after a brief teaser, Seth Rogen and James Franco have set out to introduce their characters in an unconventional form. In support of one of the most mind-numbingly idiotic events of the year, the MTV Video Music Awards, newsman Dave Skylark (Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Rogen) have delivered a 20-minute special.

Featuring interviews with Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, and Jason Derulo, there’s the sense everyone is trying a bit too hard, but there’s a few funny exchanges, and it’s nice to see the hilarious Timothy Simons and Ben Schwartz pop up for a bit. Hopefully there’s more laughs in store for the feature, but in the meantime, one can see the special below and head over to Between Two Ferns to see this sort of thing done right.

In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.

The Interview arrives on December 25th.
