With his live-action adaptation of Akira falling through at the last minute, Unknown helmer Jaume Collet-Serra has finally landed his next project with the Liam Neeson-led thriller Non-Stop. But like any hot commodity in Hollywood, the director has a variety of projects in the pipeline and one has finally secured financing and a cast.

Ombra Films and Studiocanal have come aboard Mindscape, a sci-fi film that will be produced by Collet-Serra and mark the directorial debut of Jorge Dorado. A cast has already come aboard, including the talented Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Kick-Ass), American Horror Story’s Taissa Farmiga and Brian Cox (25th Hour, Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

As a smaller budget sci-fi thriller the film follows “a man who can enter peoples’ memories and who takes on the case of a brilliant, troubled and dangerous teenage girl to determine whether she is a sociopath or a trauma victim.” With a strong cast, I’ve enjoyed Collet-Serra’s style of genre films so hopefully he can guide Dorado to an impressive debut here.

Shooting kicks off today with production planned in France, Barcelona and Canada and cinematography by The Impossible‘s Oscar Faura.

Are you looking forward to the sci-fi project?
