Controversy and surveillance would seem to attract good talent. Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Bill Condon, and — even just at first — Joel Kinnaman are gravitating toward a film about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, that same figure who shook up US information policy some two years ago. (You may remember the blonde hair, accent, and a batch of rape accusations.) Now, another worthwhile name has, literally and figuratively, begun to enter the picture.

TheWrap claim that Laura Linney, she of great talent, is now in talks to bring herself aboard. While they haven’t reported specifics on her role, it’s already known that Josh Singer‘s screenplay — based on Luke Harding and David Leigh‘s WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War On Secrecy, along with Daniel Domscheit-Berg‘s Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website — mostly pivots on the relationship between Assange (Cumberbatch) and Domscheit-Berg (McAvoy) and, all things considered, how the massive implications of one’s work affected things. For some context: The latter was his spokesperson and second-in-command (as many sources would tell you), commanding so much power that the dissolving of their relationship may have led to the group’s large public exposure in late 2010.

Linney could play (almost) anyone in this story, then; no matter who, I think Condon is getting a rather fine deal out of this project. (You can insert an obvious, unfair Breaking Dawn joke here.) Expect to know more when shooting starts around the start of next year by coming here, not WikiLeaks, though we can start covering detainee policy documents if you so like.
